MATCH REPORT: 02.10.05 - ASTON

02-Oct : Aston 3 - 2 Newbury Forest

Well guys we always knew that this was gonna happen at some point this year we just hoped that it wasn't going to be this soon. The first defeat is a hard one to take, but we have to say that we contributed to our own downfall. We started sloppy and got punished for the few mistakes we did make.

However, on the plus side we have to look at how we played in certain patches of the game, and how we enforced our play onto them and dictated how the game went. If we look at our performances over the past 3 games I think we would all be happy with how we are playing. Yes there are mistakes, and yes we haven't won every game, but what we have shown is a good team spirit.

Sunday was a good example of how far the team has come. Last year at 2 -0 the teams heads would have dropped and we wouldn't have tried to play our game. We would of booted the ball up to and just tried to force it.

This year however you can see the maturity with the team. At 2 - o the defence still wanted to knock the ball about at the back. midfield weren't trying to force balls through that weren't necssarily there, and the forwards were trying to make space and face up defenders. These are giant steps for a team such as ours. More prominent than all of this is the team unity, I dare anyone to tell me that we could of fought back like we did on Sunday or last week, last season. i mean at the end of the game yes we were pissed off we had lost, but we could all see that the performance was a good one, its the result that was bad.

Overall, i thought Sundays performance was a good one. what I wasn't to impressed with was the turn out to training and the game. i don't expect everyone to turn up week in week out, because i know that some of us have other things going on in our lives. But it only takes a text or a phone call to let people know. We only had 8 at training on Thursday and 12 for the game, its not good enough guys we all owe it to each other to let everyone know when we are around and when were not.

Neway I know you all waiting for the ratings and don't read know of this so here they are:

Ed Polley GK 7/10
Some might say how can he get this score if he conceded 3. To be fair to him i don't think we helped him out as much as we could as a team, for example we could of closed the 3rd goal down quicker. Again made some vital saves at times when the game could of got away from us.

Ricky "The Veteran" Blanks RB 7/10
First game back from injury. amd i thought he did a great job in an unfavoured position. Even though i know he won't want me to say it, gave us a lot of stability down that flank, and could always whip a ball in if it was set back to him.

Marc "Yardage" Wakley CB 7/10
I jest and joke with him about playing on pitch, but again he gave a good display at the back. his partnership with GDM is looking better and better. Kept the ball excellently at the back and even tried to venture forward when the opportunity arose.

Gary "OMG" Murphy CB 7/10
By the way just so you know GDM has complain that he doesn't get enough lines on himself so i have to make sure this is abot 4 lines or more otherwise he won't be happy. Another good display by the machine. Roper Dope a penalty out of them and flick on the ball for the first. Him and Marc must of only lost a few aerial chaellenges in the whole game. Gave the team a platform to play form, and kept the ball well. Needs to make some of these corners count though, how many you gonna have cleared off the line.

Rob "OMG i'm gonna die from illness, but Carlos must still be there to play the ball are a dazzling run" Hurst LB 7/10 i don't think he will mind me saying i think he started the game slow and got caught out of position a few times. However stuck to the task fantastically. intercepted balls and ensured he had his man marked. if he can continue in this fashion and start games better this mark can only improve.

John "Hotshot" Hassan DM 7/10
Another competent performance for our Kasier. impressed me with his ball retention, but also with his work rate, Got about the park alot more that what he normally does. This in turn improve the overall team performance. Absolutely fantastic in the air, was always ready to chanellege and was dirty when needed to be. Took his goal well to.

John "Little Pol" Gallaghan AM 7/10
loving his busyness in the middle of the park, he always seems to fin space inbetween players. had alot of license to roam which i think help our fowards. Did well when link with other midfielders and was a key link when the team was getting forward.

Alfie Egembah AM 7/10
Reverted back to a preferred midfield position but found the first 15 mintues hard while trying to get used to play there and not up front. Once I settle thought I had a lot of energy closing people down getting forward and tracking back. I thought link up play with other midfielders was good, and made sure that there was always an extra body available.

Frankie "Javier" Perez WR 8/10
Another fantastic busy display from the wide man, never stop working always on the move. Seems to have really added something else to his game this year. Was fizzing in some great corners and crosses which meant that the oppositon was always under threat when he had the ball. Alsoo had the move of the match, left 2 defenders absolutely baffled as he weaved his way through them, excellent work.

Jonno "The Battery" WL 8/10
I really do think that he must eat batteries for breakfast. Never stopped running and always gave the opposition something to think about. Tried to hold on to the ball when he went into the middle which helped the team get a foot in the game. Scored on his league debut, if he keeps this up i don't think i will be playing up front.

Dave "Speedy Gonzalez" Polley CF 7/10
Took his time to get into the game, but once in it gave us a target to hit up top. Any aerial ball played up there was always chanelled which allows midfielders to join the attack. needs to work on holding it up when played in to his feet so as to slow the game down sometimes. With a few more games under his belt I think he will be back to his goal a game best.

Subs;

Dave (Zesty) Zarcaro WL 7/10
He's doing what we ask of him, he came on and gave us an out let on the left, more importantly he layed the ball backwards i couldn't believe it and I don't think many of you guys could but its true. Had good link up play with other fowards, but also had a very good work rate rarely lost the ball. If he continues like this its gonna be hard to not playing him.

Well as stated move of the match goes to Frankie, however moment of the match i have decided to share between myself and GDM. it was like watch Ali in his hey down, Murph suckered him in and then won the penalty. then afterwards got up and called him a dickhead to his face, fantastic! To go along with this, i had 4 men all trying to hack me like a bitch, while i'm running around all of them shouting out kipper and on your pants while i'm doing it, superb. We wanna be seeing a lot more of those this year

Well that's it for another week see you later

ps I gave Frankie MOM this week, well done well deserved
