MATCH REPORT: 23.10.05 - MADWIG

23-Oct : Madwig 4 - 2 Newbury Forest

I thought for once we started fiercely and with a high tempo.. We
passed the ball nicely, under pressure and with pace, we looked extremely solid at the back from the goal keeper , back four and up to the midfield. Up front we looked dangerous on the break and used the ball wisely.. Alf took his goal beautifully, and our second goal was a great diagonal through ball intended for me from John Hassan, which the defender intervened and hit an own goal, sounds like a fluke ..but in this game you make your own luck... with out forward pressure from midfield there wouldn't have been a second goal! We took a very good side by the scruff of the neck and bullied them that first half.. At half time looking around, I saw a mixture of faces..half the team looked like we won the game already and the other half looked worried...as if they could see the future result of this game..a loss !

I still think we played extremely well..the second half the Ref made an error on the penalty, resulting with couple of soft goals going in....very late in the game.. but we continued to fight for our team and throwing bodies at them and the ball. By extra time, both teams looked fucked with, people limping and players getting cramp. We thought hard and lost against a much improved team from last year, also a division above us. There isn't a team in our league that would be able to control us, if we continue to play like we did yesterday !! We did ourselves proud !!>

I've written this much, so ui might as well give you my match players performance. I'm not gonna say anything humourus-wouldn't want alfie saying I'm copying his style!!

Ed- Extremely solid for the whole game, made 4 or 5 crucial brave saves, that kept us in the game. Probably had his view blocked on the 3rd goal as he saw it late. 8/10

Marc- Solid,solid,solid.. Great arial presence and strength, gave the strikers a very hard time..solid ! 8/10

Murph- Murph with his great experience at the back..strong sliding tackles, powerful and commanding in defence, looks like he was born in defence ! 8/10

Ricky- First game back after a long injury, and asked to do a job at rightback. Kept it very simple, good consistent goal kicks and very relaliable stern player, lots of defensive duties kept him from his normal trade mark runs from the wing. 7/10

Chris- Also doing a job, with our regular full backs, injured and awol. Kept busy, neat and tidy, and picked up a bad injury in the middle of the first half with a fantastic 50 yard chase back and sliding tackle. 7/10

John H- Very simple safe passing, stuck his foot out and broke up a lot of the play against a very good opposition controlled them for most of the 2 hours played. Had a big say in our second goal 8/10

Mike- Great presence, strong as an ox, caused their midfield and strikers lots of problems. Great technique and has experience. Took a lot of physical abuse, but gave out a lot too! 8/10

Little John- Quick, sharp, intelligent, didn't really get into the game as he usually does. Clever player, who has a very good ball retension. 7/10

Frankie- Live wire, caused their left back big problems, put some fantastic balls in. neat passes and did more than necessary defensive duties,a much improved player! 8/10

ME!- Had a good first half, linked up nicely with the midfield, linked up with alfie for the first goal. Made the run for john to thread the ball, resulting in our second goal.Picked up bad cramp in the second half as wasn't very mobile or effective after that. 7/10

Alfie- Electric first half, running at the defenders, concentrated and kept the ball close to him. Excellent finish, moved to midfield in the second half and didn't stop running and winning the ball, Hit the bar-great shot. 9/10 M.O.M

Subs- Del- Another player covering a position, after coming back from a long injury. Strong, sturdy, went up and down that channel and fought for the team 8/10

Jono- Extremely fast, and dangerous. Had a great defence to beat and was always under pressure. Defenders were worried about him. 7/10

Lee- Fantastic natural goal scorer, hasn't found his form yet. Deadly predator in front of goal. Must be nearer goal to be more affective. 7/10

Well played guys !
