MATCH REPORT: 14.01.07 - ABBEY YOUTH OLD BOYS

14-Jan : Newbury Forest 2 - 1 Abbey Youth Old Boys

Newbury Forest 2 v 1 Abbey Youth Old Boys (Essex Trophy)

We’re all going to Wembley, our knees have gone all trembly, Come on Newbury Come on Newbury.

Its final time now boys, first one in the clubs history and you guys have worked hard to get there. But it’s only the beginning and we haven’t finished yet, we still have to go out there and win the thing. The season is starting to bubble over quite nice and every one seems to be upping their game.

The game was one that was always going to be a test, but I thought we rose to it. The first half alone was total dominance at times. We moved the ball well and quickly but also knew when to be patient, we were looking like a well oiled machine, and all we needed was the goal. We got it on the stroke of half time. Great play by Jey Siva down the left which lead to a great ball in for a poachers finish by myself.

The second half was still continued pressure by us but the second wasn’t coming. A disallowed goal for us and then a fantastic save by Graham made us remember that they were still in the game. Finally we got the second to put us in a commanding position. It was another good strike by Andy Saunders to take his tally up to 14 for the season. However in the last 15 mins it was all hands on deck as they got a spectacular consolation goal. Although we were under pressure, they didn’t really create much especially with Graham claiming well from crosses.

All in all it was another good performance by the team, let’s just keep it up for the games to come.

Starting Line-Up:

Starting Line-Up

Now for the ratings:
Graham “Newbury’s No1” Tritton GK
Newbury’s No1 had an outstanding game. Kept us ahead when we were 1-0 up with a fantastic save. Made a meal of the supposed stud on the thumb, but hey I’ll let him have that if he’s gonna make saves like that. 8/10

Danny “Mr Utility” Chester RB
Late replacement for the Animal at full back, but had a great game in a position that is unfamiliar to him. Next week I think he’s in goal. 8/10

Arnold “The Rock” Djedje CB
At times had to look at him twice; to see if it was the same player. We always knew about his strength and pace, but he’s now stepping up his distribution as well. His right foot volley out to Jey has gotta be up there for pass of the match. 9/10

Nick “Mummy came to watch me play” Marable CB
His partnership with Arnold is become formidable, and his ability to bring the ball out from the back gives us another weapon to use. 8/10

Tom “Fat Git” Starling LB
Top draw performance by the Welsh wonder kid. Was never fazed by the opposition, and came across as the culture quality player he is. Show a side I didn’t think he had. 9/10

John “The Kaiser is Back” Hassan DM
Just like the prodigal son; he’s returned. Back to his Kaiser best, never shirked a challenge and always wanting the ball. Gives the team a natural balance when in the middle of the park. 8/10

Tom “Most for forward I’ve seen him” Gibbings AM
Man alive was he trying to get a goal. If he could shoot he’d be dangerous. Always a good solid performer and starting to cement his place in the team now. 7/10

John “How dare you drop me” Galligan AM
Another player who gives his all to the team, his quality on ball allows others to play because they know he will find them. 7/10

Jey “Mr New Boots” Siva WL
Flake, Twigglet whatever you wanna call him; the boy knows how to deliver a ball. If he keeps doing this I might have a chance of catching the Goal Machine 8/10

Andy “He’s Oh so quiet” Saunders CF
Normally when you take goals away from a striker they seem very lazy and not much of a team player. In our case, we’ve probably got one of the hardest working players in the team. Fantastic effort again. 8/10

Alfie “Captain Fantastic” Egembah WR
Worked hard in the first half to create space, and always worked back when needed. Scored at a time when we were on top and need the goal. Work well as a unit up to too. 8/10

Subs:
Dave “Man that’s a long Surname” Ademakinwa AM
Came on again and help the team move forward as we were but under pressure in the closing minutes. 7/10
