25-Nov
: Newbury Forest 3 v 0 Collier Row Seniors
What a turn around for the books, after a bit of a humbling defeat the week before this was one of those results the team needed to bring back the faith in the team. The siege mentality really set in once we realised that we were missing a few key players, on top of injuries and people having to play out of position. You would of thought that confidence was low, but the guys felt that we owed them something and we owed each other a performance.
Before the game we spoke about playing for the entire 90 minutes, making sure we leave nothing left out. Giving everything we had and making sure we play to the best of our abilities. From that first whistle everyone knew what to expect and got about their tasks at hand. First to every ball, winning the 50 – 50‘s, it was a complete difference to the week before. The game was not the best in terms of football, but as a great man once said you have to earn your right to play, and this is what we did. Everyone was winning their personal battles all over the park. As soon as this started happening the chances started to come, and so did the opening goal.
Our own Zizou finished off a great move starting on the right with Joe Mariani surging past the full back and drilling a ball across for Nicole to finish smartly. Danny Chester added a second with a cool finish some might say ROONEY esc. Lil Dave finished the goal scoring late into the second half with a crisp finish from just inside the box. The feeling after the game was great, as everyone felt that they had some part to play.
