MATCH REPORT: 7-Oct-07 - Collier Row Seniors

7-Oct : Newbury Forest 1 v Collier Row Seniors 1

Well after all of the talk from last week about this game it became a bit of an anti climax. As funny as it sounds it really was a game of two halves, and if it did anything for us it should us that we will need to be on top form to ensure that we do well this season. Concentration is vital, we all have specific things we have to do and we have to make sure that we do them. This is what team work is all about.

Despite the negativity that is going to come from the game there were some positives to take, one was being Toch taking a shot; in fact Toch taking two shots. The first half performance was one of a master class at times. We moved the ball around quickly and accurately, while also being very solid at the back. We dominated possession and controlled the flow of the game. When we play like that its going to take a really good team to beat us.

Second half which literally the complete opposite to what happened in the first, apart from the centre where we kept the ball for over 25 passes moving it forwards and back and across the pitch. Other than that we looked tired (which is a first for us), we didn’t want to earn our right to play. We didn’t want to do the ugly things like tracking back and dropping off early. If it wasn’t for a good display but the back four it could have been worse.

What we can take from this game is vital. Some may say its 2 points dropped, I say it’s a point gained. They will be one of our main rivals this year and we stopped the getting 3 points. I don’t thing we can play like that again so we will only get better. The back line looked solid through out and seemed to dominate their forward players. As a team we have to come through this bad result and move on to the next game and ensure we get 3 points, however the next game is a cup game (Champs League) so ignore what I said.

Newbury Forest Line-Up

Now for the ratings

Graham “Newbury’s No1” Tritton GK
Error cost a goal, however his distribution was outstanding throughout the game. 5/10

John “Lil Pol” Galligan RB
Has continued to show his versatility within the team, but could have done with him further forward. 7/10

Nick “Spoony” Marable CB
Had a great aerial dual against their forwards and came out on top more times than not. 8/10

Kye “Rio, Rio” Braithwaite CB
Although he looks nothing like him, he’s giving us that same air of confidence at the back. 8/10

Tom “Pretty Boy” Starling LB
The fat but pretty Welshman was almost firing on all cylinders. Up and down that flank like a hedgehog. Some might say like sonic even. 7/10

Brad “Debden 4 Life” Gates DM
Started the game well but started to fade as the game wore on. 6/10

Tom “Can I ask Nicole first” Gibbings AM
Worked hard and was near on untouchable in the first half, but again fade out of the game as it went on. 6/10

Toch “Veron” Singh AM
Has finally realised that he is allowed to shot and scored a great goal from it. Second half was a blur as not much went on. 6/10.

Jey “Take yr time flakey” WL
Worked hard throughout the whole game, but that was probably his downfall. Maybe tried to fill gaps, but we needed him out wide were he causes more damage. 6/10

Danny “Hi Coach Dan” Chester CF
Had a hard task up top, was very isolated and had to chase down a lot of lost causes in the second half. 6/10

Joe “Brother of Chav” Mariani WR
Difficult game to be involved in, found it hard to find space in the first half. In the second the team didn’t keep the ball well, which didn’t help his plight. 6/10

Subs
Alfie “Icon” Egembah WR
Difficult game to come into as we weren’t playing well. 6/10
