MATCH REPORT: 28-Sep-08 - Rookwood

28-Sep : Newbury Forest 10 v Rookwood 0

After last weeks bad performance, this week the team rolled up there sleeves and gave a 5 star performance. With the opening day defeat still ringing in our ears many knew that a performance and more so a result was needed. Many of the big guns had taken some stick for last weeks result, but they do say that the best way to get over a defeat or bad performance is to play another game.

This weeks opposition was knew to the team as we didn’t know much about them as we have never played them before. As big as they were, we had confidence that the ref was going to be able to control the game and will allow it to flow. As the game started we had the lions share of the ball and were creating half chances. The telling break through came with some great trickery by Siva down the left to beat his man. He then produced a superb low near post cross for Saunders to get a deft touch and guide it into the far corner. The first goal was always going to be important in the game the second however was going to be the make or break goal. Once this was achieved the team settled down and continued to march on.

The goals started to flow, and the movement and ball retention was there for all to see. It would be easy to wax lyrical about how good we were going forward and how many chances we took, but the work rate and tracking was just as good. The season starts now for Newbury, nothing is won in September but it can be certainly lost. Let’s hope last week is the only one.

Starting Line Up:

Newbury Forest Line-Up

Now the ratings:

Graham “Newbury’s No1” Tritton GK
Was unfortunate not to have much to do, but did the things he had to do well. 7/10

Jon “Lil Pol” Galligan LB
Back from Poland and back filling in. Always looked comfortable on the ball, and bombed on well down the left. 7/10

Andy “Slim” Feeney” CB
Slotted into a new back line well and even got him self a goal. Worked well with Nick at the back and kept the ball moving simply. 7/10

Nick “Fatty” Marrable CB
Was at last seasons best, composed on the ball and a dominant force in the air. Plus he loves a block challenge and a two footed foul!!! 8/10

Alfie “Cafu/ Maldini” Egembah RB
Got forward well and put some good balls in the box, covered well and kept a good back line shape. 8/10

Tom “Gibbo Ran!” Gibbings DM
We can see the Kaiser in him growing; the force is strong with this one. Broke play up really well and kept the ball moving. 8/10

Toch “Deco yeah” Singh AM
It was like having a new player; it was to be fair seen as he was in goal last week. Incisive passing and forward runs are making him an automatic pick week in week out. 9/10

Dan “Rooney’s Back” Chester AM
Fantastic performance, from the old man who turned 21 this week. Never gives up, always works hard and took his three goals really well. 9/10

Jey “Hillingdon yeah” Siva WL
Needed a performance to show us he was big time still, was putting in bullets all game and took his goal really well. 8/10

Andy “Newbury’s No9” Saunders CF
The deadly marks man is back on form; pre season is a thing of the past. His first finish was truly top draw. Still not fully back to his goal machine best, but he’s definitely well on the way. 7/10

Dave “Andy Gray himself” Ademakinwa WR
Has stared the season like a new player, followed in well to score his first and the less said about the second the better. Work rate was absolutely phenomenal at times loving his work. 7/10

Subs

Cameo performance from the new boy, took a little while to get up to the speed of the game; but once he was there, and left his own imprint on the game. 7/10
