MATCH REPORT: 26-Oct-08 - Saracens

26-Oct : Newbury Forest 2 v Saracens 2

Back to the league action again, and a tough tie against a well organised team in Saracens. We didn’t know much about them but knew they must be half different just because of the results that they have had.

The team was on a good run of form and were looking forward to the game. As the game started you could see that it was going to be a tough one, as they didn’t let us settle. They made sure they were in our face and made us play to our best. The first goal came from a great cross from the right by the captain, for Toch who was making a late run into the box. As always we were on top and controlling the game, but when you don’t take your chances you always give the opposition the chance to get back in the game.

Just as we said they went into an undeserved 2-1 lead, but such is the teams spirit at the moment that we don’t know when it’s over. We kept on pushing and probing looking for the equaliser, we were camped in there half and the goal was bound to come. It came with 15 minutes to go, a great corner from Lil Jon and Andy Saunders was there to nod home. But we didn’t stop there, we kept on pushing looking for the winner. As we piled forward we managed to win a penalty with only minutes to go. Alfie Egembah stepped up to take it, only to see it hit both posts and not go in. At the end of the game we were disappointed not to have won, but were happy to have not lost, and in general were quite happy with the performance.

Starting Line Up:

Newbury Forest Line-Up

Now the ratings:

Graham “Newbury’s No1” Tritton GK
Both goals he couldn’t do much with, but his all round game was good. 7/10

Jon “Fat Pol, but getting smaller” Galligan LB
Starting to make left back his own. Had a tough task marking one of there many big quick black guys but stuck to it and gave us width all the time. 7/10

Andy “Centre Back” Lane CB
For someone whose not centre back he sure as hell makes it look easy. Worked well with Nick to keep there striker quiet. 8/10

Nick “Fatty” Marrable CB
Starting to get back to the giant he has been in the air, winning everything and making sure the player doesn’t get it or get past him. Getting a good partnership with Andy at the centre of the defence. 7/10

Alfie “Cafu/ Maldini” Egembah RB
Had a great assist for the first goal and got forward really well. We won’t talk about the penalty miss though shall we. 7/10

Tom “Gibbo Ran!” Gibbings DM
We can see the Kaiser in him growing; the force is strong with this one. Broke play up really well and kept the ball moving. 8/10

Toch “Deco yeah” Singh AM
Developing into the ball we all see in training week in week out. Movement for the first goal was fantastic and generally was fantastic. 8/10

Dan “Rooney’s Back” Chester AM
Loves these types of games, enjoys the hustle and bustle. Needs to do more of his forward work through the middle so he can unleash his trademark Rooney strikes. 7/10

Jey “Little Legs” Siva WL
Needed a performance to show us he was big time still, was putting in bullets all game and took his goal really well. 7/10

Andy “Goal Time” Saunders CF
Another one who had a tough time, normally his pace and work rate are his best attributes, but he had to be a bit smarter due to the size and pace at the back. 7/10

Dave “Andy Gray himself” Ademakinwa WR
Had a tough game against the widest man I’ve ever seen. Did okay but will probably think he could have given them a few more problems. 6/10
