MATCH REPORT: 19-Oct-08 - Tigers (SESFL Cup)

19-Oct : Tigers 2 v Newbury Forest 4

The cup run is up and running now.  Tigers were a team we had always had difficulties against. They had beaten us in our first ever cup final and we had always struggled against them in league games. I think we went five games without scoring against them in open play. So we knew it would be a treat, however the result of it was we managed to coast through most of the game without having to really get into top gear. With a few players missing we only had a bare eleven with an injured sub.

This may have help as the team knew we had to get the job done in 90 minutes as we didn’t really want to go to extra time. We kept the ball really well and created a hatful of chances; as we normally do. What it shows is how far the team has come on in such a short period of time. With much more bite in the team we have moved up a stage or two and are now being more aggressive. Hopefully this can continue for the whole season.

Starting Line Up:

Newbury Forest Line-Up

Now the ratings:

Graham “Newbury’s No1” Tritton GK
Was unfortunate not to have much to do, but did the things he had to do well. 7/10

Jon “Lil Pol” Galligan LB
Got caught a couple of times in possession, but starting to grow into the role really well. 7/10

Andy “Centre Back” Lane CB
Mr Laney can play anywhere at the back and its helping. Always looks composed on the ball. 8/10

Alfie “Just call me Thuram at Parma” Egembah CB
Unfamiliar position, but worked hard to get the job done. Just kept things ticking over while there. 7/10

Chris “Mr Man” Wallbank RB
Need this game to get back into the groove of things. Confidence started to find its way back and by the end was bombing up and down that flank 7/10

Tom “Gibbo is Big Time” Gibbings DM
Starting to become irreplaceable within the side. The role he’s playing is unusual for him but he’s grown into it and is flourishing like a flower. 8/10

Toch “Deco with a pony tail” Singh AM
From being a bit of a bit part player last year, he’s now becoming the man this year. His assured performances just keep on coming and long may they continue. 8/10

Dan “CSI” Chester AM
Saw flashes of his Rooney best as always, just need to get these flashes to be more frequent. 7/10

Jey “Put him on his right” Siva WL
Quiet game for the Tiger from Hillingdon, to be fair he’s probably due one. Still always dangerous when he gets on the ball, and has the ability to create out of nothing. 7/10

Andy “What’s your job again” Saunders CF
Even though he didn’t do his job!!! Still was always a threat whenever the ball went up top. Today he was a creator which just adds another string to his bow. 8/10

Shaun “Twistic Trouble Starter” Harris WR
Played out wide and got himself two goals, always looked dangerous and his strong running always made him a thorn in the opposition side. 8/10
