MATCH REPORT: 21-Sep-08 - Valley Park

21-Sep : Valley Park 1 v Newbury Forest 0

Not much needs to be said about this game. Considering we played them with 10 men 2 weeks before and won 2 – 0. I can hear the cries of that’s football. I wish it was that simple. Fact of the matter is we didn’t work as hard as them and they really wanted to win it more than we did. A valuable lesson was learned, no matter how good we think we are we need to perform and put the work in. No one individual is going to be able to carry a team or get us a win. Its all about the 11 guys out there working together to ensure we are all working towards one goal.

The beauty of football is there’s always another to get your teeth into and ours in next week. It’s not the best way to start a season but it could be the wake up call we needed to make sure we take every game seriously.

Starting Line Up:

Newbury Forest Line-Up

Now the ratings:

Toch “Newbury’s No2” Singh GK
The fact he had to go in goal took something away from us. Was unlucky with the goal but did well with everything else. 6/10

Tom “Welshy” Starling LB
Only lasted 20 minutes, and didn’t really look himself when playing. 5/10

Kye “Mr Get Fit” Braithwaite CB
Played through injury and did the best he could. To be fair was one of the better performers. 6/10

Nick “Made in England” Marrable CB
Worked hard and did well against his opponent, but at times was fight a losing battle. 6/10

Alfie “Fullback” Egembah RB
Hardly got forward and past his forward to help with the attacks. 6/10

Tom “Non Kaiser” Gibbings DM
Worked in patches but didn’t do enough to break up the play once we had lost the ball. 5/10

Shaun “I pity the fool” Harris AM
Just like his partner in crime flitter in and out of the game. His ability is in no doubt, but the work rate has to match for his work rate to match. 5/10

Dan “Workaholic” Chester AM
Was a bit like a bull in a china shop, was everywhere and tried his best, but definitely smashed a few plates, when the ref let him. 5/10

Jey “Hillingdon yeah” Siva WL
Not his best game for Newbury but not his worst. Started to drift inside as he wanted to get more involved; but didn’t have his normal effect on the game. 5/10

Andy “Newbury’s No9” Saunders CF
Still not himself yet this season; didn’t seem to have the same spark he brings the team and ended up going off with an injury. 5/10

Dave “Shut the Line” Ademakinwa WR
Worked tireless through out the game, but probably need to be more creative going forward. 6/10

Subs
Jon “Fat Lil Pol” Galligan LB
Mr versatile came in useful as per normal. Back from Poland and straight into the side; did okay without any preseason. 6/10

Brad “Stanstead yeah right” Gates DM
Came on and tried to make things happen, but wasn’t at his best so they didn’t seem to come off. 5/10

Chris “Left back yeah” Wallbank LB
For a guy with no left foot came on and did a great job down that flank. 6/10
